We will explore Space through our musical, ‘BLAST OFF!’ and our class books, ‘Beegu’ and ‘The Marvellous Moon Map’. In DT, we will create marvellous mechanical martians using levers and sliders and in Science we will be learning about habitats and food chains! We will also be learning about Islam in RE and we will explore the importance of money and work in the HUB for our PSHE lessons! Our Computing this half term will have a very cosmic feel as we create an animation too!

Year 3 and 4

In Year 3 and 4 we are going back in time to find out what life was like from the Stone Age to the Iron Age. We will be using our computing skills to create slides to present our knowledge. We will be learning about cave art and will write a historical recount about the discovery of the caves of Altamira. The book ‘Secrets of Stonehenge’ will inspire us to create Stonehenge silhouettes in art.  In Science we  will be investigating  rocks, soils and fossils and on International Women’s Day we will learn about the famous fossil hunter Mary Anning. In PSHE we will be challenging stereotypes and we will think about our own career aspirations. As we approach Easter we will be finding out about why Jesus is so inspiring through our  lessons on Lent and the Easter story.

Year 5 and 6

Within our ‘Yesterday’ themed learning, we will be exploring how the Earth has changed over time, observing how countries and continents have changed shape (and how we can recognise them now). We will also be using databases and hardware/software to research and present data linked to places/times from history. We will also be using online platforms to create suspenseful music for our spooky stories. In DT we will be exploring inventors and how we can use gears and pulleys to create movement (linked to our class novel Clockwork). Furthermore, we will be exploring different ways of life across different continents, as a well as comparing life now to different periods of history. In PSHE we will be exploring discrimination and how people have suffered throughout history. Finally, in Science, we are exploring the human body and how our body can change over time.

HAXBY ROAD 100

The week commencing 28th March is our Haxby Road 100 week! During this week the whole school will be taking part in a number of different trips or experiences to expand our cultural capital. Haxby Road 100 is a pledge for our children’s everyday, creative and cultural entitlement. We look to explore our children’s talents, be active members of our local community and follow our children’s interests. Some things that are taking place are, ‘Now Press Play’ auditory experiences, a visit to the local mosque, a gymnastics session, mobile farm visits, bronze age experience and a whole school Dragon’s Den competition. We are also so lucky to have regular visits from YoYo- York Schools Youth Trust.

Our learning will be celebrated during our showcase and INSPIRE sessions shared with parents and governors.
