Tell Me Why?

Tell Me Why?

This year all of our exciting connected learning is inspired by songs by the fabulous band ‘The Beatles’! The summer term is getting off to a great start with our next theme: ‘Tell Me Why?’.

EYFS

In Early Years, children are starting the topic by exploring growth. They will be planting seeds and observing changes over time, alongside watching the growth of our very own tadpoles! We will be building the children’s curiosity into plants and nature through exciting explorations. Following this, we will move onto exploring all things minibeasts! We will learn about different types of minibeasts, their habitats and life cycles! Reception are very excited to be travelling on their first school trip too! Throughout the topic, we will be building our questioning skills and learning lots of information to help us grow and develop ourselves!

Year 1 and 2

In Key Stage One curiosity is key this half term as we explore a number of questions! Through our class books, ‘Leaf’ by Sanda Dieckmann and ‘The Last Wolf’ by Mini Grey, we will explore how and why we should take care of our planet. In Science, we will learn about the structure and basic needs of animals. We will learn about the four countries that make up the United Kingdom and explore the capital cities, surrounding seas and weather patterns. In our Creative Project, we will explore how to strengthen and stiffen structures when designing and making an animal enclosure.

Year 3 and 4

In Years 3 and 4, we are going back in time to Ancient Greece. We will be reading Greek myths and will design and make our own Ancient Greek pottery. In Science we will be learning about the functions of the different parts of a plant and we will learn about the conditions plants need to grow by planting our own seeds. We will also be finding out about why bees are so important. RE in Year 3 will explore what it means to be a Christian in Britain today and Year 4 will find out what we can learn from religions about right and wrong. In PSHE we will be learning about healthy choices and in Computing we will be finding out what happens when we change the input and output on Scratch.

 Year 5 and 6

This half term, linked to the theme ‘Tell Me Why’, the children will be exploring electrical components within science, gaining a deeper understanding of circuits and their corresponding circuits. In computing, the children will be using micro: bits to create an attack warning system for the Vikings, which combines sequences of instructions. Within History, the children will be comparing information from different sources and using their findings to create a comic strip of the Viking/Saxon times (including Edward the Confessor). In art, we will be creating abstract clay sculptures in the style of famous artists. As part of our RE learning, we will be exploring places of worship and their significance within different religions. Finally, within PSHE, we will be creating a safety guide for any Vikings who were to wake up in modern times, thinking about Healthy sleep habits; sun safety; medicines, vaccinations, immunisations and allergies.

Our learning will be celebrated during our showcase and INSPIRE sessions shared with parents and governors. We are looking forward to our Jubilee party too!
