Class teacher: Mr Reeves-Kemp
A day in the life of Fossgate
Our day starts at 8.50am with the daily register and our Restorative Practice check in!
Following this we have our ‘Overteach’ session, which is a dedicated time to revisit any learning we have found tricky and plug any gaps in our learning, which have been identified through our ongoing assessments.
At 9.20am, we have ‘Reading Squad’. We are so lucky to have 3 adults for this session so all groups read with an adult. Developing our fluency skills as well as our key comprehension skills such as: retrieval, inference, understanding vocabulary, summarizing and understanding the author’s purpose.
English starts at 9.40am, which is often based on our class novel. We follow a three week cycle that consists of a week practising the skills needed for writing and unpicking the genre of writing and using drama to support our ideas for writing, followed by a week of guided writing and finally a week of independent writing, where we get to show off our amazing learning.
After morning break, we have Maths. At Haxby Road we teach through mastery, following small steps of progression to ensure we develop our arithmetic, alongside our problem solving and reasoning skills. We use a CPA approach where lessons use a mixture of concrete resources (eg. dienes and counters), pictorial representations (drawings/pictures/bar models) and abstract representations (number sentences) to help us understand and master the content.
At 12pm, it is lunchtime. After eating our lunch with our friends, we have time outside to play and enjoy the fresh air, on the playground or on our school field (when the weather is nice).
In the afternoons we learn through our exciting whole school topics, covering all subject areas, making cross curricular links where possible! For more information about our current topic, see below!
Wednesday morning is when we have specialist teachers come in to enrich our learning by teaching us Music, PE and Spanish. School provides a PE kit for every child. Every half term, we also get the opportunity to go to Cook School to make some amazing creations to take home and enjoy.
Seesaw/Google Classroom
We love to showcase our learning on Seesaw and are always so pleased when parents respond and comment. We also set assignments on Google classroom, which means that children who need to work remotely are not missing out on their learning. If you need any help accessing these, we would be happy to assist!
