Our curriculum design incorporates opportunities for pupils to apply their mathematical knowledge and understanding in a range of contexts. During our Made in Yorkshire topic pupils solved problems and linked to our Betty’s tea party, adapted recipes and used their measuring skills in Cook School to make typical Yorkshire food. We also looked at Fairtrade and decided how a village might choose to spend their money. During our Out of the Window topic we have been developing our scientific measuring skills linked to the weather and have used statistics to record and interpret measurements.
Children in Need
At Haxby Road we regularly participate in fundraising activities which give us the opportunity to use our maths skills. We compared totals raised by Children in Need over a number of years and made given amounts using a specified number of coins. We will also be supporting Crisis at Christmas again this year to raise money for the homeless.
